EarthSave (www.earthsave.org) - EarthSave is a worldwide organization that promotes a plant-based diet to save the earth. Has information about the organization and articles. Food First (Institute for Food and Development Policy) (http://www.foodfirst.org) - Deals with food supply in reference to poverty and world hunger. Fights for the rights of small farmers and local food systems everywhere. Founded by Frances Moore Lappé. (398 60th Street, Oakland, CA 94608; 510-654-4400) Food for Life Global (www.ffl.org) -The largest vegetarian food relief program with branches all over the world. This Hare Krishna organization distributes millions of spiritual vegetarian meals each year to needy people. Has information about this program. They really do a good thing. Food Not Bombs (http://www.foodnotbombs.net) - All volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolence. Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in city parks. The groups also serve free vegetarian meals at protests and other events. (PO Box 32075, Kansas City, MO 64171; 800-884-1136) The International Vegetarian Union (IVU) (www.ivu.org) - Has been promoting vegetarianism since 1908. This site can be viewed in various languages such as French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and German. Has an excellent set of links. ISCOWP, The International Society for Cow Protection (http://iscowp.org) - ISCOWP 's primary concern is to present alternatives to agricultural practices that depend on the meat industry and industrialized, petroleum powered machinery. Have some worth while articles to read on their site. They also have information about how they protect cows and what you can do to help this important project. I know the people that manage this group and they are honest, sincere people. Jewish Vegetarians of North America (http://www.JewishVeg.com) - Email: jewishveg@mail.com - Give a view of Judaism in reference to animal and vegetarianism. Has some vegetarian Kosher recipes. Mothers for Natural Law (www.safe-food.org) - Founded in 1996, this organization deals with genetic engineering. Has information on genetically engineered crops and organizes a campaign to label GE foods. North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) (http://mars.superlink.com/user/dupre/navs/index.html) (www.navs-online.org) - Has articles, a list of their events and links. Vegan Outreach (www.veganoutreach.org) - This is an organization dealing with veganism. VivaVegie Society, New York City (www.vivavegie.org) (http://www.southwind.net/~ebase/Orgs/VivaVeg/VivaV.html) - This group engages in vegetarian street advocacy. They make annual appearances at festivals in New York. Veggie Jews (http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/veggiejews) - Dedicated to providing a support group for Jewish vegetarians and vegans and spreading vegetarian/vegan and animal rights consciousness into the Jewish community. The group exists both online as a Yahoo group through which members can easily communicate with the group and as a community group with periodic local events. Non-Jewish friends who are vegetarians, vegans or interested in the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. Many of their events are organized by volunteers and membership is free.
