Foreigners can cross the border here and it is convenient to get a
train from here in Lucknow. Not many foreigners come here. There is
nothing to do here. The Indian border is 1km south. Dudhwa National
Park is 20km south, in Indian, and can be gotten to by bus or jeep.
Where to Stay
There are some places to stay here, but as a class the places are
fairly basic.
The Hotel Taruan is a decent place.
Annapurna Guest House (23336), near the main circle (roundabout) at
the west end of town, is a decent place. Some rooms have a TV and
air-cooler. It has a popular restaurant.
Sangam Lodge (21880) is some really basic rooms and better rooms with
air-cooling.
Hotel Afno Ghar (22959) has mid-range decent rooms with hot water
and air-cooling. It is in a quiet location.
Travel
There is an airstrip 10km north of town from where there are flights
to Kathmandu ($150). The RNAC office (21205) is in the bazaar. RNAC
has four flights a week to Nepalganj. There are buses to Kathmandu
and Nepalganj.
On the Indian side, local buses go to Palia Kala, 35km away, from
where there are long distance buses.
